The Mineral Collection incorporates printed silks by Weston scarves. These vibrant prints are created from highly magnified images of the "insides" of minerals, capturing stunning inflections of pattern and color. The scarves are printed by the worlds finest digital silks printers in Lake Como, Italy
When designing the Mineral collection, we paid attention to the transitional gradation of colour and detail that traverses the original print design. We felt the influence of science and geometry present in the crystalline structures of minerals which guided our choice to use elongated brass tubes as our base for the fabric application. Necklaces and bracelets are individually unique in their colour and print detail - each constructed using a single strip cut through the silk scarf.
Our silks have been sourced from a New York silk house specializing in the manufacture of environmentally friendly dyed Chinese silks.
We use sterling silver and 14 karat gold filled links.
Gold filled is different to gold plate. Gold plating is a miniscule layer of solid gold applied to a brass base, estimated to be 0.05% or less of the metal product. Gold plating will wear off quickly and expose the brass base product. It does not stand up to heat, water or wear over time.
By comparison, gold-filled is legally required to contain at least 5% gold by weight. It rarely tarnishes and is usually a lifetime product because the gold layer bonded to the brass core is quite thick and done so under intense pressure. It does not flake off, rub off, or turn colour. Anyone who can wear gold can wear gold-filled without worries of any allergic reaction to the jewellery.
Gold-filled is a reasonably priced, quality alternative to solid gold.
